Didn’t your mom teach you to say thank you?
When I first started in the agency world it was a bit eye opening. Definitely not like they teach you in class. It’s a much tougher industry than you can ever imagine, but exciting as all can be. The term “in the trenches” is definitely a great phrase for it. Its a battle everyday, and you better come prepared.
When you are constantly battling to get budget, battling with yourself to deliver something creative, or whatever it might be. At the end of the day we are in the service industry. We are here to serve our clients. The way that I serve is normally at the start of the relationship. Because a lot of my focus is on the front-end of projects I am a part of many new business pitches. I feel like I go on a bunch of first dates all the time. Except I am trying to date that client, and foster a great marriage if you will.
In a marriage you provide gifts to show appreciation right? So riddle me this Batman, after that honeymoon phase is over with a client shouldn’t you continue saying thank you to your client? This isn’t just a card. Do something bigger. It doesn’t have to be an expensive gift, but just like when you are giving your significant other a gift put some thought into it.
Clients give millions of dollars to their agencies, the least an agency can do it treat them with a thoughtful present every once in awhile. Since this is the giving season, make sure that you are telling your clients thank you. You don’t want to be broken up with during the holidays…
